Private Commissions

I love the process of getting to know a subject before I paint them. My approach is to portray each animal or person in a way that reflects their individual character, working from high resolution photographs so I can study my subject closely. Before beginning a portrait, I make sure the photograph in front of me will result in a successful piece of art.

When undertaking a commission I ask the client to send me a selection of their favourite digital photographs. In some cases the photographs, no matter how lovely are not suitable for me to work from, in which case I request that some additional shots are taken.  Before they go away and do this it is often useful for me to show some example photographs and suggest guidelines as to what would be an ideal image for me to work from. The process is both simple and straightforward.

Prices start at £450. The following sizes are approximate so as to give an idea of scale:

A3 (297mm x 420mm) single portrait of one animal £450. This work would be on heavy watercolour paper, you would need to have it framed behind glass to protect the delicate surface.

A3 (297mm x 420mm) portrait of more than one animal, or an animal with a person £650. This work would be on heavy watercolour paper, you would need to have it framed behind glass to protect the delicate surface.

A2 (420 x 594) portrait of one animal £950. This work would be on heavy watercolour paper, you would need to have it framed behind glass to protect the delicate surface.

A2 (420 x 594) portrait of more than one animal, or animal with a person £1,200. This work would be on heavy watercolour paper, you would need to have it framed behind glass to protect the delicate surface.

A2 (420 x 594) portrait of one animal £1,250. This work would be on a stretched canvas.

A2 (420 x 594) portrait of more than one animal, or animal with a person £1,550. This work would be on a stretched canvas.

A1 (594 x 841) portrait of one animal £2,100. This work would be on a stretched canvas.

A1 (594 x 841) portrait of more than one animal, or animal with a person £2,750. This work would be on a stretched canvas.

Complex Fine Art Canvas Works ("The Dark Works" Series)
Works from The Dark Works series are unique narrative compositions. They are heavily staged, deeply atmospheric, and require significant studio hours to achieve their characteristic depth. These independent studio pieces are not typically commissioned and will be offered for sale as and when they become available. However, if you would like to commission a highly detailed bespoke work of this style (A1 or larger canvas), prices start at £3,850.

No payment is taken until a photo has been selected for me to work from. I will then provide a time frame for the completion of your artwork and request payment before I commence the work.
